  1. So far I think The Inheritance of Loss is a wonderful novel. Sai, the main character in this novel really helps the reader capture a really pure picture of the life she's living in, in India. She seems like she's a strong character that just wants to lead a normal life. She lives with her grandfather, a judge who is afraid of the world he lives in. Through Sai, we see her life through flash backs and up until now. She became an orphan when her parents were killed then she started to live with her grandfather. After she came to her grandfathers, she starts tutoring with someone her grandfather requested she tutor with. This is all explained in a flashback. Now she has a new tutor that she is in love with. We don't know yet how this came about, but I'm sure we'll find out soon. Another character in the novel is Biju. Biju is the judges son who now lives in America, and has worked at many different restaurants from high class italian to riding his bike for chinease deliverys. I don't know why Sai is telling Biju's story, but I'm anxious to find out. Biju is a happy spirited boy who has wanted to go to America for a long time for the opportunity. So, Sai has alot of explaining to do about her life and I'm anxious to keep reading.

  2. Katherine, I found the things that you drew out of Sai's personality unique. I did not notice her trying to live a normal life, but I saw how she definitely had fresh ideas of how she wanted to live compared to elders living around her.

  3. Katherine, I found it interesting how you noted Biju in your post because he also was a bold character in my mind. In his letters to his father he seemed to be hiding his struggles he encountered. I hope that Biju moves on to success and I wonder if Biju and Sai will ever cross paths in the novel.

  4. Katherine, what do you think of the judge? It seems like he is pretty depressed and has an interesting history which I am also anxious to hear about. I feel like there is a deeper story to his life and his son. I noticed that Sai seemed to be an important part of his life but I feel like at one point in the novel the judge will have to let Sai move on.
